Founded in 1983 by Jeff ‘The Jew’ Cohen, The Custom Tattoo Company is a second-generation, family-owned business that is dedicated to the art and craft of fine tattooing.
From simple souvenir tattoos picked off of the wall to one of a kind backpieces and sleeves, we approach every project as a unique opportunity to apply classic tattooing techniques with modern aesthetics.
Today it is still a working street shop and a custom tattoo studio in one: flash off the wall for walk-ins, and custom pieces drawn for you, from a small idea to a full backpiece.

If we can’t tattoo you that day we can always book you an appointment
Fill out a tattoo request form to show and tell us your ideas. You can upload any reference photos you’ve been saving and we’ll get back to you about scheduling an appointment.

Do you take walk-ins?
We sure do, seven days a week, 12 to 7. No appointment needed.
Can I book an appointment online?
Not instantly, no. Start by filling out a tattoo request form with your idea, placement and size, and an artist will get back to you to set it up. You can also just come by the shop and talk to an artist in person.
Do I need a deposit?
Yes for appointments, never for walk-ins. A $100 non-refundable cash deposit holds the slot and comes off the final price. Larger Japanese projects run $300 up to $1,000, and that comes off the total too. Give us 24 hours notice and your deposit moves with you to the new date. More on rescheduling.
What do you take for payment?
Cash. There is an ATM on site, but it charges $3 per $200, so plan ahead.
How old do I have to be?
18. North Carolina has no exception for parental or guardian consent, so please do not make the trip without ID.
How do I take care of it?
The first two weeks decide how it ages. Leave the bandage on two to three hours, wash gently with antibacterial soap, pat dry, then a thin layer of unscented lotion. Let it peel on its own and keep it out of the sun and out of the water. Full aftercare instructions.
